Star Tracks - Weekly Horoscope for the Week of April 21, 2025

A chess piece knocking another off the board

Power plays take center stage now - this is your weekly horoscope for the week of April 21, 2025: Pluto brings some main character energy to the forecast this week, as he locks the Taurus Sun and Mars in Leo into a fixed t-square formation. Technically three separate aspects, a t-square occurs when three (or more) planets face off with each other from 90° angles: we had the Sun square Mars perfecting today, and he will square Pluto mid-week. Enclosing the pattern will be two opposing planets; in this case, Mars and Pluto, who will oppose each other from Leo and Aquarius over the weekend. Even though it’s taking a full week to play out in real time, these three gents are within spitting distance of each other already, and Pluto is stationed and potent. Translation: keep your wits about you. It's an extreme and explosive energetic pattern that can rear its ugly head at any moment. The Moon is still waning, and will reach her new phase next weekend. She starts this week off in detached Aquarius, deep diving into Pisces overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. She spends Friday and Saturday all fired up in Aries, and reaches Taurus early Sunday morning. She is new in Taurus Sunday afternoon.

Wednesday, April 23, 2025 - Sun square Pluto (3° Taurus to Aquarius)

Relatively fresh off his square to Mars in Leo on Sunday, the Taurus Sun goes on to square Pluto in Aquarius today. This aspect suggests an undying drive for power and recognition, with an attendant willingness to scorch the earth in order to get what you think is rightfully yours. Squares are tension aspects. The Sun represents our life force energy, and Pluto represents power. When you add these three things together, you don’t get anything good. This can look all sorts of ways, but situations where attempts to control or influence go sideways, and wind up sapping your strength instead, are the most common manifestation. Choose your battles wisely now. As a matter of fact, avoid battles altogether if you can. You may find that you get backed into a defensive position, even if you are trying to keep the peace. On the positive side, it’s a great time to purge yourself of bad habits, crippling addictions and toxic people. Anything that manipulates you into giving up your vitality has got to go, says Pluto. It’s uncomfortable and perhaps a little frightening, but surrender and release are your only options.

Thursday, April 24, 2025 - Venus conjunct Saturn (27° Pisces)

Yeah, we’ve been here before. And not all that long ago, either. Venus hasn’t moved much this month, so she’s been repeating the same aspects over and over, in rapid succession. Her lessons are being hammered home now. Today sees her conjoining Saturn, which she’s basically been doing for all of April. But unlike before, this conjunction signals the beginning of the end of her protracted dance with the Lord of Karma. When she moves on from him this time, she will kiss him goodbye for good. Well, until next year, anyway. By now you know the drill: Venus in Pisces is effusive, romantic, compassionate and prone to delusional thinking. She lacks boundaries, and always sees the good in everyone. So even though she’s an extremely well-meaning Venus, she gets her ass handed to her rather frequently. All of this canoodling with Saturn has been meant to show Venus where she’s buried her head in the sand. And if you haven’t figured it out by now, expect your ears to get boxed by this third and final conjunction. Even Venus in Pisces has to obey when Saturn says it’s time to touch grass.

Saturday, April 26, 2025 - Mars opposite Pluto (3° Leo to Aquarius)

The piece de resistance of this rather busy week, Mars and Pluto lock horns today from their respective positions in Leo and Aquarius. Mars is the lower octave of Pluto. What this means is that they stand for the same basic archetype (power and the ability to bring about change), but Mars, being a personal planet, embodies our more conscious expressions, whilst Pluto, being transpersonal and generational, is subconscious in his expression. When they oppose each other across the Axis of Ego, having both been squared by the Sun in Taurus already, the results feel like life and death are on the line. And maybe they are, for some people. There’s a disconnect between your subconscious desires and the way you are trying to achieve them; or, you don’t even know what you want because you are blind to your shadow, but it’s driving the bus anyway and making you act a fool. You don’t have to approach this blindly. It’s repeating due to Mars’ retrograde, only the last time they opposed each other, they were in Cancer/Capricorn. Think back to late October/early November… did anything particularly serious happen back then? There could be a clue from back then that helps you avert a crisis now.

Sunday, April 27, 2025 - New Moon at 7°47’ Taurus (3:31 p.m.)

As New Moons go, this one is way darker than usual. A Taurus New Moon is a fertile lunation, encouraging us to plant seeds (literally and figuratively) that have a high chance of bearing fruit. And that’s certainly true here; but the fruit is going to look a lot like the oranges on the cover of No Doubt’s album Tragic Kingdom (google it). This New Moon is squared by Pluto in Aquarius and Mars in Leo, and opposed by Lilith in Scorpio. It completes a Grand Fixed Cross, which by itself is a very stressful configuration that requires us to take action, gain perspective and strive towards balance, as energy bounces around the box in a constant, unrelenting loop. Two major issues that we will deal with under this energy are 1) the fixed nature of the pattern, which encourages obstinance and defensiveness in the face of necessary change; and 2) the cast of characters surrounding the New Moon is exceedingly dark - Mars, Pluto and Lilith?!?! Yikes. Seems as though our shadows are on full display, or easily could be. The fixed signs are largely concerned with self worth, while Taurus in particular is concerned with survival on the material plane. Have you been devaluing yourself, or going against your own moral code, out of a survival-based fear? If so, you may want to get that in check before this New Moon puts you on full blast.
